News Immigrants hidden in van (February 07, 2010) A French councillor has been jailed for three years and her son for five years after smuggling sixteen Vietnamese into England.
The pair pleaded guilty to assisting unlawful entry into a European Member State.
The Crown Court in Portsmouth heard that they travelled from Cherbourg to Portsmouth in a van with 13 men and three women hidden behind boxes of shrimp noodles.
Holes had been made in the van's wheel arches and a partition panel to allow the immigrants to breath.
The immigrants had paid £21,000.00 to be smuggled into England. The immigrants were returned to France.
