The Team Canada World Junior Ice Hockey Team won a bye to the competition's semi finals last night in a thrilling game against Team USA.
Both teams scored fairly early on in the game to make the game 1-1, but Team Canada was trailing 4-2 midway through the third period.
Jordan Eberle scored his second goal to make the game 4-3 , and later went on to win the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the game. Alex Pietrangelo scored Canada's fourth while they were shorthanded and it was an extremely nice goal.
A 4-4 game with a bye to the semi-finals on the line, the game was getting really interesting. Canada scored a fifth goal in the third period, the referee however had different ideas because he believed that a Canadian player had interfered with the American goalie, so he decided to disallow the goal.
After a 5 minute overtime period, the 2 teams were still tied. Shootout it was going to be. Canada won the shootout 3-2 with Eberle, Kadri, and Kozun scoring.
The third American shooter, Jordan Schroeder decided to try and beat the Canadian goalie Jake Allen by shooting for his 5-hole (in between his legs) like he did earlier on in the game.
Jake Allen was expecting Schroeder to try this move on the ice and he stopped his attempt at a goal so Canada has a bye to the semi finals.
