Doctors are currently testing a drug which they believe is able to stop alcohol making people drunk. They believe that if iomazenil is taken before drinking it might negate some of alcohol’s effects on the brain. Tests in a driving simulator will determine whether the drug makes volunteer drinkers safer behind the wheel after imbibing.
The results of a pilot study suggest that those who take iomazenil are less likely to stray into the wrong lane and brake more quickly. The researchers from Yale University do not want the drug to allow people to drink more. They want it to be a remedy for heavy drinkers, as it would take the pleasure out of drinking.
I personally don’t see the point. Why would someone drink alcohol without the intention of getting drunk. Drink juice instead. Or if you enjoy the taste of alcohol but don’t like being drunk then drink in moderation.
