Manchester United have released a new kit for next year’s 2012/2013 season, and its safe to say that it’s pretty ugly. The shirt remains relatively similar to last seasons, although it is now chequered rather than plain red. The chequered pattern is meant to be a nod to Manchester’s cotton industry at the time the club was formed in 1878 under the name Newton Heath.
The Nike designed kit carries the slogan: Forged in Industry, Made of Manchester. A club spokesman said: “It’s historical, unusual and a bit different. Gingham was invented in Manchester goign back to when it was known for its cotton mills.”
Needless to say fans are disgusted at the new kit, with comparisons being drawn to tea towels, picnic blankets, and being something Rupert the Bear would wear.
