New BBC talent show The Voice, starring Tom Jones, Danny Donoghue, Jessie J, and will.i.am, has been incredibly popular since its inception earlier this year. The Voice has beaten rival show Britain’s Got Talent in the weekly ‘ratings war’ every week since it started, although it lost this past weekend.
Many of The Voice fans chose not to tune in to Sunday’s pre-recorded results show, calling it ‘amateurish’ and ‘odd’. The BBC passed the show off as live although all presenters, judges, and participants were wearing the exact same outfits. Judge will.i.am tweeted early on Sunday, saying: “Tonight is going to be a difficult decision for me... I hate the idea of sending talented people home... #thevoiceuk”. This further angered viewers as they feel he was purposely covering the tracks in such an obvious deception by the BBC.
A show insider admitted that The Voice’s results were pre-recorded to save money, adding that it would cost ‘an extortionate amount’ to film them live. They said: “We already pre-record the results show on Strictly Come Dancing. We can’t broadcast results live on Saturday, as we would clash with Britain’s Got Talent and we wanted to avoid this.”
