Liverpool’s Uruguayan star striker, Luis Suarez was handed an eight game ban and a 40,000 pound fine Tuesday night after attending a hearing about the allegations that he had racially abused Patrice Evra, a French Left-back playing for Manchester United. Suarez has been on fire since entering the Premier League of January 2011, consistently being amongst the best strikers in the league.

There has been an increase in racist attacks within football recently, whether it be the fans or the players. This shows that racism is still very evident and this is why the FA has imposed such a large fine on Suarez, as they are making an example of him, hoping that others do not do the same. Only so much can be blamed on “the heat of the moment”, and it is no excuse for racism.
