Date ends up as a very public affair for a student

When a male student asked a girlfriend to be his date at a high school prom, he did so with a rather public display of affection.

Under control of night, on the front wall of their school, he taped giant cardboard letters spelling out the question:

“SR will you go to the prom with me? HMU - T”. The acronym, “HMU” means”Hit Me UP”.

Even he cannot have expected the attention that that his date would garner in the coming day.

For though Miss SR accepted his proposal, the school suspended him for trespassing and barred him from attending the prom.

On Friday, after a week in which the fate of Mr. T’s date has become national and international news and he had appeared on morning television And late night talk shows, a protest rally was to convene outside his high school.

The governor of Connecticut , no less, weighed in to suggest the school had over-reacted, legislators were mooting a law to stop young men from being banned from proms for such offences and nearly 170,000 people supported a Facebook petition.

The principal at the school gave a press conference to explain that the school would not back down.

As for Mr. T, he seemed to be growing a little weary of the situation. “ I can’t wait for it to be over with”, he said.
