Michael Foot died on Wednesday, at the age of 96.
Whilst he never became a British Prime Minister, he was a great speaker and politician.
Foot was the fifth of seven children. His father was a prosperous Plymouth Solicitor. He was educated at Leighton Park and went to Wadham College, Oxford where he read Political Studies and Economics.
In the House of Commons, Foot swiftly became known as a passionate speaker and socialist.
He will be greatly missed, if only for the short donkey jacket he wore to the Cenotaph for the wreathing ceremony in 1981.
