» Listings for 2011Posted on 5:26pm Wednesday 21st Dec 2011 Johnny Nelson, 22, brother of Jesy Nelson who is a singer in Little Mix who recently won the X-Factor, has been charged with cocaine dealing. He was also driving whilst disqualified, which will result in further punishment, along with the possession and distribution of the Class A Narcotic. He had been filmed selling two wraps of cocaine from his Smartcar in Hornchurch, Essex. The buyer of the wraps was apparently a reporter for The Sun, who received an anonymous mobile number which was called “a 24/7 hotline for drugs”. They paid 80 pounds for the two wraps, which were folded using lottery tickets. Little Mix are a group who take pride in their clean, family image, so this could potentially cause trouble for them, although it is unlikely that Jesy or any of her family other than her brother realized he was a dealer as they live in Romford, not Hornchurch. On the other hand this could be a good thing for Little Mix, as they will have to fight to stay popular, a feat most X-Factor winners, like last year’s winner Matt Cardle, fail to achieve. Posted on 5:08pm Wednesday 21st Dec 2011 England football captain, John Terry has been charged this afternoon over his alleged racist remarks towards QPR defender Anton Ferdinand on October 23rd. He will appear before the West London Magistrates’ Court on the 1st February. Despite being accused of calling Ferdinand a “f****** black c***”, Terry remains adamant that he is innocent and says he will fight to get his name cleared as soon as possible. It can be questioned as to why there was such a delay in charging him, making one wonder if things had have been different if he was not an important player for the English national team. The FA has stated that they will allow him to remain England captain, using the “innocent until proven guilty” rule. The incident will not go to Crown Court, meaning that the maximum fine allowed to be administered is 2,500 pounds. It is wondered whether or not Terry is being let off lightly due to being England captain, as Suarez was handed an eight game ban and a large fine. Posted on 12:05pm Wednesday 21st Dec 2011 Liverpool’s Uruguayan star striker, Luis Suarez was handed an eight game ban and a 40,000 pound fine Tuesday night after attending a hearing about the allegations that he had racially abused Patrice Evra, a French Left-back playing for Manchester United. Suarez has been on fire since entering the Premier League of January 2011, consistently being amongst the best strikers in the league. There has been an increase in racist attacks within football recently, whether it be the fans or the players. This shows that racism is still very evident and this is why the FA has imposed such a large fine on Suarez, as they are making an example of him, hoping that others do not do the same. Only so much can be blamed on “the heat of the moment”, and it is no excuse for racism. Posted on 11:52am Wednesday 21st Dec 2011 Poet, Author, Model, Actor and Hip Hop Artist, Common’s 9th studio album, The Dreamer/The Believer dropped yesterday. Common is an artist known for his prolific lyricism, and is placed under the umbrella of “conscience rappers” as he tends not to rap about materialistic things which most other rappers do, giving hip hop a bad name. This is one of the reasons why he is the only hip hop artist to ever be asked to the white house, although this caused a controversy as many Americans, particularly from New Jersey, believed that it was inappropriate for Obama to invite him due to his lyrical content. People who say this have obviously not spent time listening to the real Common. His Common Ground Foundation, has multiple charities which reach out to children suffering from poverty. Anyone who doubts Common or even hip hop music as a whole, should listen to: Common – The People, and Common – The Light, two old songs which still get played today. His album The Dreamer/The Believer, is a great album, living up to the high expectations of his fan base. He mixes his laid back style up quite well too, as he attacked the new generation of Hip Hop in Sweet, showing his South Side of Chicago upbringing. Although he shows his lyrical intelligence in Blue Sky, whilst also placing an artistic touch in The Dreamer, putting a poetic verse from Maya Angleou in it. Posted on 9:42pm Tuesday 13th Dec 2011 A 33 year old convicted drug dealer and sex attacker, Nordine Armani, killed 5 people and injured 123 others after chucking grenades at Christmas shoppers in Liege, Belgium. An 18 month year old baby, a 15 year old and a 17 year old were amongst the people killed. Reports say Armani used a FN FAL rifle, which is capable of firing up to 700 rounds a minute, as well as a pistol and grenades in the attack. He died in the attack although investigators are unsure of whether he committed suicide or died accidentally, as he was on his way to the police station to be questioned. Witnesses said that they saw people with bullet wounds all over their bodies, underlining the realism of this horrible incident. Armani was recently released from prison early, questioning the Belgium legal system and its psychological evaluation of prisoners. It also raises concerns about how a civilian was able to possess not only firearms but hand grenades too. I also don’t understand how this story was not a headline, just because it took place outside of the UK and doesn’t involve the USA doesn’t mean it isn’t relevant. Atrocities of this level should always be front page news, so people can see what severe damage actions like this cause, and to put pressure on that government to tighten the law. Posted on 10:41pm Tuesday 6th Dec 2011 Six publishers, including Apple, are in a price fixing probe after a synchronized planned increase in the price of E-books. All publishers pushed up the price of their E-books by as much as 50%. It is believed that the public will be overcharged for E-book downloads, which cost around 10 pounds each. There will be no surprise that Apple is among the publishers in the probe as they are notorious for having extremely high prices and trying to monopolize the market. This can be seen in their Macbooks as they are seemingly in a league of their own, especially as they are the laptop of choice for most celebrities, although so is the price tag.

X factor have yet again made another blunder shedding doubt on the show’s credibility. Fans found that Amelia Lily’s winners single was put on sale for pre-order on the HMV website, days before the live final where the winner is announced. Only the winner of the show will have their single sold although all three have one prepared. The two other finalists, girl group Little Mix and Liverpool native Marcus did not have any singles available for pre-order on the HMV website. This scandal comes after a previous altercation where it was announced on the ITV website that Amelia was back in the X factor after Frankie Coccozza dropped out, despite the show only having just started, meaning that people were still voting for their favorite to come back despite the decision already being made.
www.lowryllp.com www.notaryengland.co.uk Posted on 10:40pm Tuesday 6th Dec 2011 Celebrity Big Brother winner and My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star Paddy Doherty faces a 3 month prison sentence for bare knuckle fighting. He fought his cousin Johnny Joyce, who was egged on by his brother Dougie, outside PC world in Manchester. Doherty received stitches to his upper lip and eye socket, and then needed to get part of his ear stitched back on due to it being partly amputated. The feud started after a confrontation at a family funeral, and all three pleaded guilty to affray. Doherty was also featured on the television show Britain’s Deadliest Man and will be sentenced in the New Year. www.lowryllp.com www.notaryengland.co.uk Posted on 7:29pm Monday 28th Nov 2011 A British company has created a new video game system. This seems like an unoriginal and standard occurrence in our highly technological 21st Century society. The only difference here is that the controller is a urinal. It is a snowboarding game, where the character is controlled with the gamer’s urine (Let’s hope for no backflips). There is a LED screen attached to the top of the urinal, with a motion sensor looking down and acknowledging the movements. The company has also created two other games to accompany the snowboarding adventure. One is the classic Breakout arcade game, whilst the other is a quiz aptly named Clever Dick. The modern video game scene is extremely competitive, with global leaderboards for games such as Call of Duty and FIFA 12. One has to consider to what lengths people will go in attaining the high scores in these new games, storing up their urine to unleash down the pub on a Friday night. At least the owners won’t be complaining, assuming no backflips will be attempted.
http://www.lowryllp.com http://www.notaryengland.co.uk Posted on 7:00pm Monday 28th Nov 2011 Recent X Factor reject Janet Devlin has lashed out at the show, claiming that it turned her into a karaoke singer, as she covered songs every week. Devlin was voted off of the ITV show Sunday evening, with Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh and Tulisa all preferring Misha B to the Irish teenager. Their Mentor Kelly Rowland exclaimed that the decision was too hard as she “loves both these girls”, and therefore refused to vote. Devlin claims that had she been a puppet and done exactly what the show had asked of her, she would have gone further in the competition. The Irish singer certainly had a unique voice, although has been criticized for not being diverse enough and predictable. Portrayed as a shy, quiet girl on the show, this certainly seems to contradict that opinion. It makes one wonder whether or not she was acting on camera in an attempt to gain more votes and whether or not she’s watched the X Factor before, as it has always involved contestants covering famous songs. http://www.lowryllp.com http://www.notaryengland.co.uk |
