Posted on 10:03pm Friday 8th Jun 2012 Prime Minister David Cameron wants to offer Scotland control of 70% of all money it raises if it votes against independence. He is prepared to hand over more fiscal responsibility if Scotland reject breaking up the Union, and their amount of control would increase substantially from 6% to 70%.
There are reports that his offer could also include complete control of income tax. Scotland already have the power to raise or lower the tax by 3%. Mr Cameron is not expected to hand over control of corporation tax to Scotland, however, for fear that the Nationalist government will use it as a weapon against Westminster.
According to official figures, Scots have £1000 more spent on them per head by the government than English residents. A referendum of independence is due to be held in 2014.
Posted on 10:03pm Friday 8th Jun 2012 One of Norway’s most prominent psychiatrists, Professor Ulrik Fredrik Malt of Olso University, believes that Norwegian mass killer Anders Breivik has a rare, high-functioning form of Asperger’s that has left him incapable of empathy or real friendship. He said: “It is plausible that there is Asperger’s, Tourette’s, and a narcissistic personality disorder.”
As evidence, he cited the lack of emotion Breivik showed when discussing those he killed, his impressive memory for details, his obsession with numbers, his hypergraphia (obsessive writing), and his monotonous tone of voice. Malt stated that all of these were evidence of “functional disorders of the brain lobes.”
Breivik angrily interrupted Professor Malt’s testimony, complaining that his claims were “insulting” and “abusive”. But when given the opportunity to comment at the end of the day, he was cooly ironic. He said: “I would like to congratulate Professor Malt for his well-executed character assassination. In the beginning I was quite offended, but in the end I thought it was pretty funny. The premises outlined are not true.”
The 33 year old extremist has already confessed to killing the 77 people in his massacre last July, and has now instructed his lawyers to fight for him to be declared sane, even though this would mean he spends the next 21 years in prison, rather than a secure mental hospital.
Posted on 10:02pm Friday 8th Jun 2012 A flower girl almost came a cropper during Usain Bolt’s 100m sprint last night during which he ran the second fastest time this year... he holds first and third place too. Crossing the line at about 40mph, it takes Bolt a few metres to slow to a stop. It was during this slowdown that the world’s fastest man clashed with a girl who was there to present flowers to runners.
Bolt successfully dodges one flower girl, although sees the second one too late. He attempts to jump over her, but resigned to his fate, grabbed a hold of her and ran along with her. She then fell backwards but Bolt managed to stop her from actually hitting the ground, pulling her upwards and eventually gave her a hug once he comes to a halt.
The collision occurred after Bolt ran 9.79seconds in Oslo on Thursday. He said: “I am not yet in the shape where I can say, ‘Nobody can beat me’. My start is letting me down slightly still. I can’t complain but the execution of my race was not perfect.” He blames his poor starts down to the fact that Omega have introduced shorter starting blocks, which will also be used in the Olympic Games, and Bolt believes they are too small for his size 13 feet.
Posted on 11:49am Thursday 7th Jun 2012 A recent study suggests that sat-nav systems can actually impair driving, as well as sometimes send motorists the wrong way. Researchers at the University of London and Lancaster University tested drivers in a car simulator.
The study suggested that motorists do not drive as safely when using a sat-nav as they have to concentrate on the directions given. While they could cope with simple instructions, they started to swerve, speed up or fail to notice pedestrians if they had too much information.
Volunteers were set tasks by a computer which imitated the instructions given by a vehicle’s satellite, navigation system.
Lead researcher Polly Dalton, from the department of psychology at University of London’s Royal Holloway college, said: “People are capable of following spoken instructions in a car and it’s actually a really good way of presenting information to them. It’s important not to make those directions too complicated because that runs the risk of asking them to keep too much information in mind when they are also trying to concentrate on the driving task.”
Posted on 11:49am Thursday 7th Jun 2012 The LA Kings had a chance to win their first ever Stanley Cup last night in their own rink. However the New Jersey Devils had different ideas. They’ve planted a seed of doubt in the Kings, and Game 5 in a best of seven series will now be back in the Devil’s rink.
Rookie Devils forward Adam Henrique played the hero again by scoring with less than five minutes to play in regulation and the resilient Devils pulled out a 3-1 victory on Wednesday. “It’s been a fun year and it’s not over yet,” Henrique said after his third game-winning goal of these playoffs.
Veteran goalie and future Hall of Famer, Martin Brodeur said: “You know, I think we wanted to make them jump on a plane and come to New Jersey. We had to go anyway, might as well get a game over there. I’m sure they’re not happy to make that trip. We’ll try and make it miserable for them again.”
The Kings did get unlucky last night, missing 3 breakaways and putting two shots off the post. The statistics are on their side however, as they have not lost 1 of 10 games on the road in the playoffs.
Posted on 11:48am Thursday 7th Jun 2012 England striker Jermain Defoe has flown home to London from Euro 2012 after the striker was rocked by the news that his father Jimmy has died.
The Tottenham star could now miss the opening game against France on Monday due to the bereavement, with the 29-year-old being granted permission to leave England’s base in Poland to be with his family.
Defoe was part of manager Roy Hodgson’s 23-man party who arrived in Krakow on Wednesday but is expected to return “in due course”.
A statement from the Football Association read: “England striker Jermain Defoe has returned home to England this morning following the passing of his father overnight. Jermain will re-join the England Euro squad in due course. There will be no replacement player called in.”
His father, Jimmy, was believed to have been ill for some time and was aged 49.
RIP
Posted on 11:48am Thursday 7th Jun 2012 Beyonce and Jay-Z are planning to holiday in a mobile home with Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow. The superstar couples have decided to take a low-key vacation with their kids after Jay-z and Chris finish up their gruelling respective world tours and have chosen Florida as the perfect road trip destination.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “The two couples are planning a trip around Florida. Both Chris and Jay have been on intense world tours so they really need a break. Gwyneth and Beyonce think the jaunt, going back to nature on a high-end Winnebago, will be the ideal getaway. It will be low-key but it’s just what they need and they’ll get to spend quality time together.”
Beyonce gave birth to her first child, Blue Ivy, in January while Gwyneth and Chris have two kids, Apple, eight, and Moses, six.
Chris has previously revealed that he thinks his friendship with Jay-Z is “hilarious” and thinks they get on well because they can identify with one another. He said: “Yes, it is hilarious. What’s the common denominator? Well, underneath he probably feels a bit like me and I probably feel a bit like him.”
Posted on 11:47am Thursday 7th Jun 2012 34 year old singer John Mayer has complained at feeling “really humiliated” by ex Taylor Swift’s song Dear John, which the country star allegedly wrote about him. Mayer tells of the issue to Rolling Stone: “It made me fell terrible. Because I didn’t deserve it. I’m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do.”
In the song, Taylor, who was a teenager when she briefly dated the much older singer in 2009, laments: “I see it all now that you’re gone, don’t you think I was too young, to be messed with, the girl in the dress, cried the whole way home, I should’ve known... Don’t you think nineteen’s too young to be played by your dark, twisted games, when I loved you so.”
Mayer claims he was blindsided by the songs and was unaware of her feelings towards him. “I never got an e-mail, I never got a phone call. I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I’d already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you’ve ever been, someone kicked you even lower?”
Posted on 5:39pm Wednesday 6th Jun 2012 A two year old boy, believed dead, sat up in his coffin and asked for water before laying back down again lifeless. Kelvin Santos stopped breathing during treatment for pneumonia at a hospital in Belem, northern Brazil. He was declared dead at 7:40PM on Friday and his body was handed over to his family in a plastic bag.
Kelvin’s family took him home where grieving relatives held a wake throughout the night, with the boy’s body laid in an open coffin. The mysterious event happened an hour before his funeral was due to take place on Saturday the boy apparently sat up in his coffin and said: “Daddy can I have some water?”.
His father said: “Everybody started to scream, we couldn’t believe our eyes. Then we thought a miracle had taken place and our boy had come back to life. Then Kelvin jus laid back down, the way he was. We couldn’t wake him. He was dead again.”
Not sure whether it is a fabricated story to attract attention, although it is certainly a bizarre occurrence.
Posted on 5:39pm Wednesday 6th Jun 2012 This year’s Big Brother house is full of variety, that’s for sure. The contestants range from an ex-gang member to a teacher-turned-porn star to an ex playgirl. A 24 year old from Northern Ireland, Conor, admitted that his party trick involves him wrapping his penis around his wrist saying that some people call it “the c**k watch” and he claims it has got him plenty of interest from girls.
Former Playboy bunny Shievonne admitted that her party trick was smoking a cigarette with her breasts, and said she can also down ten shots of tequila in 30 seconds. 25-year-old contestant Lydia won’t be having any of the alcohol in the house as she’s allergic, and can’t even have alcohol in her food.
27-year old Adam, former member of the infamous LA Crips gang, also won’t be touching any alcohol as he’s been working hard to turn his life around since he was 19. He says that people still tend to find him intimidating but he doesn’t have a problem with it. He said: “I would rather that than people trying to take the piss out of me all the time.”
As usual there are a few models in the house, both male and female, although I doubt the average IQ of the group reaches 100.
